An easy way to see the ip address of laptops and computers on windows 10, 8 and 7. Can be done via cmd (command prompt)
When our computer is connected to a network, that’s when our computer has an IP address. Each device has a different IP address. IP address itself is a series of numbers / numbers used to identify computers, servers, other devices in an internal network or an internet network based on TCP / IP.
There are lots of methods on how to see the IP address on a computer, but I only use 3 general methods, namely viewing the IP address via Command Prompt, Network Connections and Network & Internet Settings.
1. How to View IP Address Via CMD
1. Log in to command prompt on Start Menu or by pressing the button Win + R, then type cmd then press Enter.
2. In the command prompt window, type the command ipconfig to display information about the list of connections available on your computer, then press Enter.
3. Command prompt will display a list of connections on your computer along with their IP address, subnet mask and default gateway.
2. How to View IP Address Through Network Connections

3. Next click Details.
4. Here you can see the IP address along with other information such as subnet mask, default gateway, DNS and others.
Note : When you want to see the IP address of a computer. Make sure you are connected to the network.
3. How to View IP Address Through Network & Internet Settings
1. First right-click the network icon (as circled in red) then select Open Network & Internet settings.
2. Next, please select View your network properties.
3. Select the network or connection used. For example here I use a Wifi connection. To find out what connection you are connected to, look in the section Connectivity (IPv4/IPv6) and make sure the writing Connected. Here you can see the IP address i.e 192.168.1.4 while for /24 (255.255.255.0) is the subnet mask of the IP.
There are two types of IP addresses that you need to know, including Local IP and Public IP. Reported from Amazon Lightsail, Local IP or so-called Private IP is the IP address that is used for the scope of the intranet.
Hosts that use private IPs can only be accessed on the intranet. For example: IP private access on LAN modem using Private IP 192.168.1.1
Whereas Public IP is an IP address that has been assigned by InterNIC and contains several network IDs which are guaranteed to have a unique IP that is used for the scope of the internet. Hosts that use public IPs can be accessed by all users who are members of the internet either directly or indirectly (via a proxy or NAT).
