Accused of manipulation, Samsung smartphones are no longer welcome on Geekbench

Last week, Samsung was embarrassed by the discovery of a feature that severely limits the performance of its smartphones high-end… except in benchmarking applications. Of which note: the well-known Geekbench has taken drastic measures against the manufacturer.

Just as it did for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, the Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 are now persona non grata in Geekbench comparisons.

Smartphones using GOS sidelined

We told you about it at the end of last week: the module Game Optimization Service (GOS) intentionally throttles smartphone CPU and GPU performance in over 10,000 applications, including games.

Under the cover of preventing too rapid a rise in the temperature of the components, Samsung nevertheless delivers a biased image of the performance of its new devices. Thus the Galaxy S22 Ultra, S22+ and S22 obtain perfectly satisfactory results in benchmarking applications such as AnTuTu or Geekbench.

A manipulation, believes the publisher of Geekbench, who made the decision this weekend to withdraw all references to Galaxy smartphones using the GOS. And according to house policy, once a smartphone is removed from the rankings, it will no longer fit. Therefore, even if the update promised by Samsung to round off the corners does indeed correct the problem, the Galaxy S22 and their predecessors of recent years will remain on the sidelines.
