[Análisis-review] LG K40, everything you need to know: features, price and opinions

We had the opportunity to make a in-depth analysis of the LG K40. This is one of the smartphones most basic of the mid-range launched by the LG company in this 2019.

Although some may think that we are facing a smartphone that is too basic, the truth is that this device comes with some interesting features, including MIL-STD-810G protection, a key to launch the Google Assistant, DTS sound: X 3D Surround Sound and an AI camera.

That is, we are facing an affordable mid-range phone that has a surprising amount of technology inside.

LG K40 Specifications

To begin to know the new LG smartphone we will start knowing the main specifications of this terminal of the Korean company:

  • 5.7-inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1440 IPS LCD type
  • 32 GB of expandable internal storage with a microSD up to 2 TB
  • 2GHz octa-core processor
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 16 megapixel main camera with flash
  • 8 megapixel front camera with flash
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • 3000mAh battery
  • Rear fingerprint sensor
  • Android 9.0 Pie operating system
  • Complies with MIL-STD-810G
  • DTS: X 3D Surround Sound
  • Google Assistant button

While most of the media attention focused on LG’s new flagship, the LG G8 ThinQ, and on the first phone 5G of the company, the LG V50, the Korean tech giant also presented a trio of new smartphones mid-range among which is the protagonist of this analysis.

LG K40 Features

The mid-range of LG is composed of terminals such as LG Q60, K50 and the K40 These terminals have much in common, the main difference between them being the different configuration of their main cameras. Given this the humblest is the LG K40. A terminal that arrives with a smaller screen than that of its brothers and that has a single rear sensor, in front of the double sensor present in the LG K50 and triple the LG Q60.

Despite being the most modest, the K40 It benefits from a number of technologies that one would not expect to find on a phone like this.

The K40 features a 5.7-inch FullVision HD + screen and an 18: 9-inch aspect ratio. The screen shows some color change when looking out of angle. But perhaps with respect to the screen what attracts the most attention are the large bezels around it. It’s smartphone has a screen with a pixel density that reaches up to 282ppi.

At the power level the LG k40 has a MediaTek MT6762 Octa-Core processor that runs at 2.0GHz. This processor arrives accompanied by 2GB of RAM and we will have 32 GB of internal memory. That we can increase thanks to microSD card slot up to 2TB.

It cannot be said that it is the most powerful processor but it fulfills its mission if we do not subject it to excessively hard tests.

The design of the K40 It seems unimpressive at first; with metallic colors (the terminal is initially presented in three colors: blue, black and gray) lacks surface textures or the most striking aesthetics of the LG K50 Y Q60. But it is a simple and effective design.

At the bottom of the terminal we find the microUSB port that provides the connection for charging and transferring data instead of USB-C, which is now the norm in many of the phones launched in the last year. And next to this is the 3.5mm audio jack connector and another speaker.

On the right side we find the power button, while on the left side we will have the volume buttons, the mentioned Google Assistant button and the expansion and SIM slots.

On the front of the terminal we find the screen with the front camera (which has a flash). While in the rear panel we find the module of the camera that occupies a central position and just below it the fingerprint sensor.

We have already mentioned that this terminal was the most basic in the photographic aspect of the mid-range LG terminals of this 2019, however there are some factors that we should mention.

HBO GO could be signed independently in Brazil soon

The main camera has a unique 16-megapixel primary sensor that features Google Lens integration and a dedicated Cam AI Cam ’mode. Citing LG’s own press release, thanks to this functionality, the K40 “recognizes by magic the objects it sees and recommends the ideal shooting mode for the best results.”

It is essentially the detection of AI scenes found in Huawei, Xiaomi and Sony phones, although we are not sure how many scenes the system is capable of detecting. This should allow us to get half decent photos with this camera.

Another aspect that fans of selfies will also appreciate is the presence of the front LED flash that accompanies the 8 megapixel resolution camera.

Other aspects

What the K40 offers is an impressive robustness without appearing to have been built to be so resistant. One of the features that catches the attention of the LG K40 is that it complies with the MIL-STD 810G standard, which means that it has been subjected to all kinds of harsh conditions and is able to withstand them. So if you are looking for a terminal that can withstand almost everything at a low price this launch of LG can be a very good option for you.

It is striking that the LG K40 arrives with a key whose functionality is to invoke the Google Assistant. This key is approximately in the middle of the left side of the K40.

This button allows immediate access to the Google virtual assistant, even when the phone is locked (depending on the action being carried out, it may be necessary to enter the access code or fingerprint for the Assistant to do his job ).

The users who decide buy the LG K40 they will undoubtedly benefit from DTS surround sound: X 3D, a function that simulates a 7.1 virtual surround sound configuration. It certainly works and has its appeal, but that the resulting experience is completely satisfactory depends on the audio content we are playing and that the software is able to mix it effectively.

LG K40 reviews

In our opinion, the LG K40 is a basic terminal but it has elements that certainly make it attractive, especially when it comes to its resistance. That and the price is not too high for a mid-range terminal make it ideal for all those who do not want to spend too much on a mobile.

The LG K40 is a solid smartphone but its large bezels detract from what would have been a contemporary design.

The K40 offers good battery life, decent cameras and abundant connectivity. With a screen that lights enough to read comfortably outside on a sunny day.

The inclusion of NFC connectivity at this price is something that is surprising and we are glad to see, as is the microSD card slot and compatibility with Bluetooth 5.0.

Perhaps the worst of the LG K40 is the low performance of its processor … something that can irritate some of its users.

As we have already mentioned in general, the LG K40 is designed for those who need an affordable smartphone with a good battery life.
