Apps must ask for permission to send notifications in Android 13

Apps are allowed to send notifications wildly in Android, until the user manually turns off the notifications. According to rumors, Android 13 will instead handle notifications like iOS.

In other words, apps need to ask for permission to even send notifications, something that was called for last fall. The dialog is likely to appear on the first launch of the app, along with the app’s other possible system permissions.

Last summer, 65 percent answered that they only let single apps send notifications. This should therefore be a welcome change for many, to avoid being disturbed by unwanted and spam-like notifications.
