Borat 2: See how the movie was shot in secret

Attention! This text contains spoilers from Borat: Next Movie Tape.

Fourteen years after the release of Borat, Sacha Baron Cohen returned to his character for a sequel as controversial as the first film. Breaking into a GOP conference, singing during a rally against social isolation measures, and doing a fake interview with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Cohen went through several situations that put his life at risk.

However, despite all the exposure, the actor managed to record the film in secret, until 2 months before the release, when his images were leaked on the internet. In addition to using some disguises, the film had the important participation of Maria Bakalova, who plays Tutar, Borat’s daughter. See below how the duo managed to bypass security guards and not arouse (so much) the public’s attention.

Hay House

One of the most unbelievable sequences in the film is when father and daughter attend a debutante ball at Hay House. The sequence ends with young Tutar revealing that she has just had her first period, lifting her dress showing fake blood. Although the production had scheduled a time to shoot the scene, it wasn’t revealed that it would be for a movie with Cohen.

“What was discussed with the producer during the initial location was not what happened at the location,” Hay House operations manager Cliff Sims said in an interview following the trailer’s release. According to Sims, the Borat producers claimed they were filming a coming-of-age story and hired local extras to join the scene with their daughters.

Vice President Mike Pence

After entering the Conference of the American Conservative Union (CPAC), where Mike Pence was giving a speech, Cohen hid in a bathroom and waited for 5 hours until it was time to shoot the scene. Several people registered the moment, and the press even commented on the case, but at no time was Cohen’s name mentioned.

“I spent 5 hours getting makeup that morning with the prosthetics team changing my face to Trump’s,” Baron Cohen told New York Times. “So I ended up hiding in the bathroom and listening to conservative men go to the bathroom for five hours until I walked into the room. [No final,] We were surrounded by the Secret Service, police and internal security”.

The March for Our Rights

One of the most dangerous moments for the actor was when he took the stage during the March for Our Rights. In the scene, the actor sings songs against social isolation and about injecting “Wuhan flu into former President Obama” and cutting off journalists “like the Saudis do”. However, some people were offended by Cohen’s performance, and the result can be seen in the video released by the actor himself on Twitter.
