Actor Andre Braugher, who plays Captain Raymond Holt in the series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, commented in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that season 8 of the series focused on the fictional 99th NYPD should bring a more realistic view of cops to TV.
US police have again become the focal point of anti-racist protests after a new case involving police violence, in which Jacob Blake, black, was shot in the back by white officers in the town of Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Braugher was asked about changes regarding the representation of police officers on TV. “It’s a very complicated subject, but I think [os programas de TV] should be portrayed much more realistically,” he said.
“Now we’re entering season 8 with a new challenge, which is the knowledge and changing feelings that everyone has about the police,” continued Braugher. “What do we have on Dan [Goor, criador da série] it’s a commitment to writing an intelligent program that won’t try to hide in fantasy. So 99 will have to deal with what we know about the NYPD. I have tremendous confidence that we’re going to do this in a smart and funny way that recognizes the world for what it is.”
