Several Russian users of Google Chrome for Android encounter errors when trying to update to the new version of the Navigator.

For the moment, Google has not detailed the reasons for this bug and does not offer a solution.

An inaccessible update for Russian users

On May 9, Google released version 101 of Chrome on Android. A completely ordinary update, except for Russian users, who had the unpleasant surprise of seeing an error while trying to install it. To try to circumvent this bug, some of them chose to uninstall Google Chrome and then reinstall it. A second step that they could not accomplish since it is impossible for them to obtain the application again.

Sanctions applied to Russia have prevented people in the country from downloading and updating paid apps since May 5, but they weren’t meant to affect free apps. Google for its part has not indicated the reasons for this bug and just invites Russian users to consult a forum post, without further details.

For those concerned, there are therefore only four possible options: keep the old version of the application, use a VPN, which can lead to their account being banned, download Google Chrome from a third-party application store at risk fall victim to malware or scams, or simply change browsers.

Google Chrome

  • Very good performance
  • Simple and pleasant to use
  • A secure browser

Google Chrome no longer has to prove its qualities as a stable, fluid, fast, secure, ergonomic and multifunctional browser. Its interface and its mode of use are suitable for all audiences, inexperienced as informed. Criteria that still allow it today to dominate the market on a global scale and to pursue a development that inspires the new standards of the Web. But Chrome is not immune to a much less formidable aspect: its collection and marketing of personal data which makes it a serious threat to the privacy of Internet users, all the more so when the browser is used in conjunction with other Google services. . If respect for confidentiality must, for you, take precedence over the rest, we advise you to turn to Brave or Firefox, more reliable alternatives with satisfactory performance.
