the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, commented on the creative process that leads to choosing which MCU productions will be released as movies or series on Disney+. In conversation with the Rotten Tomatoes, the executive revealed that this is still a new line of discussions within the studio and which is based on defining the best format to tell certain stories of superheroes.

“We’re still in initial conversations to choose which characters and stories can become a streaming movie or series. What you see now in Phase 4 is still the development of work that started 5 or 6 years ago — or, in Shang-Chi’s case, 10 or 15 years ago. [Da mesma forma], we worked for many years to release [o longa solo] of the Black Widow. [Sobre esses dois últimos], we always wanted them to be defined as movies”, he revealed.

Check out the full interview (in English), in which he also talks about the future of the MCU in its phase 4:

“When Bob Iger [presidente da Disney] told us about Disney+ and about his desire for us to produce programs for the platform, it gave us a new path. This allowed us to do something we hadn’t considered until then: delve deep into characters that deserve further development but haven’t had the chance yet,” he commented.

In this context, Feige gave as an example the creation of WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. “You know we take 4 or 5 movies to tell a little bit of the story of Wanda Maximoff and Vision — same thing with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. It was as a thank you to these characters — and particularly to those actors — that the audience fell in love, but that they had a relatively short screen time in the films.”
