Better optimized and with new features, MIUI 12.5 is appearing on the new Mi 11 and soon on other Xiaomi smartphones.

Xiaomi launched its new smartphone, the Mi 11, on December 28, 2020. It runs on MIUI 12.5, the brand new version of the manufacturer’s Android interface. Based on Android 11, it brings its share of new features and improvements.

MIUI 12.5 is less resource intensive

First, Xiaomi has modernized its overlay with aesthetic changes and better transitions and animation effects. During the conference, MIUI 12.5 was even compared to the iOS of iPhones. A new dynamic wallpaper that adapts to the weather is available, as well as more notification customization options.

On the performance side, Xiaomi assures that MIUI 12.5 needs 20% less memory (35% reduction in RAM consumption by background applications) and benefits from 25% higher energy efficiency compared to MIUI 12. Welcome software optimizations.

No more bloatware?

Another very interesting point: Xiaomi promises that an extremely limited number of apps are preinstalled, while the brand is often accused of exaggerating in this area. This is a major change in strategy for the manufacturer, which must also contribute to the increase in performance mentioned a little earlier. In China, only nine apps are pre-installed (phone, settings, gallery…), but we can expect this number to be higher in Europe with the integration of Google services and the Play Store.

MIUI 12.5 also comes with new features regarding security and personal data, with better management of permissions granted to applications.

MIUI 12.5 will be rolled out to a large number of the brand’s older smartphones. A closed beta will be available (in China) very soon on the Mi 10, Mi 10T and some other references of the Mi 9 series. Other models will be entitled to it later. We should have news of a deployment schedule for Europe in early 2021.
