On Windows 11, you can now rip your old CDs with Media Player

Decidedly, Windows 11 seems to enjoy rubbing shoulders with nostalgia. The famous operating system now lets you rip your old CDs. Yes, you read that right, this feature from the past is making a comeback in Media Player.

Remember, last March, Windows 11 already encouraged us to take our old CDs out of their cupboards. Well imagine that the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system has apparently not yet finished with our good old discs.

Windows Insiders have been able to play their old CDs directly from Windows 11’s Media Player for a few weeks now. despite everything, news that had surprised many, especially in the era of music streaming services.

Inserting a disc into a drive is a gesture that people under 20 can (almost) not know. However, Microsoft seems determined to give them a taste of the little pleasures of the past. The information comes to us directly from Microsoft. Indeed, the firm has published in a blog post an update about Media Player, the multimedia player of Windows operating systems since the dawn of time. Here is what the company tells us about this famous “new” feature:

In March, we introduced CD playback support in Media Player. With the latest update, we are also adding CD ripping support. Formats supported in this release include AAC, WMA, FLAC, and ALAC. »

Contrary to what one might think, this blog post was not posted in the early 2000s. It is indeed the year 2022, and Windows 11’s Media Player will allow you to rip your audio CDs ( if you have any left) in the following formats: AAC, WMA, FLAC and ALAC.
