OPPO Find X 2 Pro: why is it a phone without compromise?

With the OPPO Find X2 Pro, OPPO wanted to achieve a smartphone without compromise. And the least we can say is that the manufacturer has achieved its goal.
The sleek appearance of the OPPO Find X2 Pro is undoubtedly what we notice on first contact. The front face, totally black when the device is off, leaves the spotlight on the screen. Consisting of a 6.7 ” AMOLED panel, it occupies 93.1% of the front face. The black frame traditionally surrounding the display has here been reduced to a minimum thanks to an ingenious panel curvature technology.
Rather than opting for a mechanical deployment system, OPPO opted to integrate the front camera into a tiny punch in the screen. Placed in the upper left corner, it measures only 4 mm and is completely forgotten when watching a video or using a full screen application. By making this choice, the manufacturer allows the OPPO Find X2 Pro to obtain a IP68 waterproof certificationimpossible with a retractable camera.
Equally refined, the rear face is made according to the model of a orange vegan leather or black ceramic. The two finishes have also been the subject of much attention. The vegan leather used by OPPO has been the subject of special care during its design. It thus exceeds the quality criteria imposed by luxury leather goods. Both elegant and pleasant to the touch, it remains insensitive to fingerprints, water and any stains caused by contact with greasy substances.
The black ceramic version is made of a composite of porcelain and Zirconium (material used in luxury watchmaking). Its manufacturing process has given rise to the filing of a specific patent as it is complex and original. Unlike glass, this ceramic is much less sensitive to fingerprints and dirt, while being more resistant.
Screen: an immersive image
As we have already briefly mentioned, the 6.7 ” screen is made of an AMOLED panel with curved edges. It displays 3168 x 1440 pixels, or a resolution of 513 dpi: impossible to distinguish the pixels with the naked eye! Its 19.8: 9 format allows it to display videos and films in excellent conditions. This is not its only advantage, since the screen reproduces the DCI-P3 color space used by the film industry, benefits from a 120Hz refresh rate to produce a smooth image. The color depth, managed on 10 bits, allows the display of 1.07 billion colors (compared to 16 million for traditional screens). The OPPO Find X2 Pro is HDR10+ certified and boasts excellent brightness of 500 nits, even 800 nits or even 1200 nits. Doesn’t that speak to you too much? So just remember that the image produced remains brilliant even in direct sunlight.
An AMOLED panel, as good as it is, remains dependent on the quality of its display controller. In pursuit of perfection, OPPO has developed the 1 Ultra Vision Display Engine. This revolutionary component integrates technologies MotionClear and HDR Enhancer. The first improves fluidity by changing a 30 im/s stream to 60 or 120 im/s thanks to an interpolation mechanism. The second makes it possible to extend the dynamic range of traditional videos. The whole product an image of incomparable quality, even if the original source is not optimal. We will notice it especially on action films or sports broadcasts. The latter often benefit from a strong compression which reduces the pleasure of the spectator. This is no longer the case once the stream has been processed by the O1 Ultra Vision processor.
Photo and video: a pro camera in your pocket
The OPPO Find X2 Pro embeds the ultimate in photography. Equipped with a 32 Mpxl sensor and a lens opening at f / 2.4, the front camera allows the creation of detailed selfies in all lighting conditions. To do this, it uses sophisticated artificial intelligence to produce an image that is faithful to reality. If the ambient light is low, the night mode will come into play to produce a selfie worthy of a high-end camera. Its secret lies in a detailed analysis of the various elements of the scene in order to correctly separate the face from the background. Even better: if the photographer wishes, the AI can correct image distortion appearing on the edges of the scene in order to keep intact
the background. Finally, the beauty mode improves the final result by slightly smoothing the skin and correcting small facial imperfections.
Housed on the back of the smartphone, the main camera consists of three modules. The main one has a 48 Mpxl sensor from Sony. With a diagonal of 11.2 mm, this is currently the largest sensor on board a smartphone. It is accompanied by a 25 mm lens opening at f / 1.7, therefore providing excellent brightness. The second module, also equipped with a 48 Mpxl sensor and a 16.5 mm lens opening at f / 2.2, is ideal for taking magnificent landscape photos. Finally, the third module has a 13 Mpxl telephoto lens as well as a 25.8 – 128.8 mm periscopic lens opening at f/3. This therefore provides true 5x optical zoom, like those fitted to traditional cameras. So that it does not protrude, its designers have “slept” it in the smartphone case. The image to be photographed is then sent to the sensor using a set of mirrors, like a submarine’s periscope, hence its name!
By combining the information from the main sensor and the periscope module, the AI makes it possible to generate a magnification of 10x: this hybrid zoom produces sharp images rich in detail both in broad daylight and in night mode. If that’s not enough, the digital zoom can go up to 60x to photograph the most distant subjects. In all cases, a double optical + digital stabilization makes it possible to avoid “shake blur”, especially in low light.
In addition to these impressive possibilities, we appreciate the speed as well as the precision of the hybrid autofocus comprising a laser module. The night mode intelligently exploits the 48 Mpxl of the sensors of the main and ultra-wide-angle module by “grouping” the light information collected by blocks of 2×2 photosites in order to produce a pixel of the final image. The resulting image then “weighs” 12 Mpxl and is characterized by very good management of digital noise in medium or low brightness. Things get even better with the night mode whose “total night” function makes it possible to obtain a precise image where the human eye does not see much.
The OPPO Find X2 Pro is also a powerful camcorder. Video recording is done in 4K 60 fps and benefits from powerful stabilization. It also offers an unprecedented 10-bit HDR video capture function for rendering rich in color nuances. While you are filming, it is still possible to take a photo or even use the zoom. The stereophonic audio capture perfectly restores the sound environment of the scene.
Finally, a slow motion mode captures 480 fps in HD to capture the heart of an action scene.
Equipment without compromise
In order to provide maximum computing power, the OPPO Find X2 Pro packs a high-end Snapdragon 865 5G processor from Qualcomm. It is supported by 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM to ensure the best possible performance in a multitasking environment. Display management is entrusted to the Adreno 650 graphics chip to provide a smooth and detailed graphics experience when running the most resource-intensive games. Storage of applications and data is carried out in a vast 512 GB UFS 3.0 Flash memory (larger than that embedded in most current notebooks).
With such equipment, we expected exceptional performances and we were not disappointed. After passing it to the test bench, we can say that the OPPO Find X2 Pro rises to the same level as the best smartphones of the moment… and sometimes exceeds them! This is reflected in daily use by an unequaled fluidity of applications and above all by a very reduced execution time for calculations. Whether it’s gaming, editing a video, editing a photo or performing a complex task, the OPPO Find X2 Pro will always respond.
The smartphone displays an impressive versatility in terms of communications. It is thus compatible with Wi-Fi 6 (the currently fastest version of the wireless network), uses a Bluetooth 5.1 chip with the aptX HD audio codec and a telephone module covering almost all of the 2G, 3G, 4G+ and 5G bands currently in use on the planet. OPPO has developed for the OPPO Find X2 Pro a 360° antenna system ensuring optimal transmission/reception of the radio signal regardless of how the smartphone is held. The geolocation module supports GPS, GALILEO, GLONASS and BEIDOU satellite networks almost instantly.
The internal audio system, traditionally weak point of smartphones, has not been neglected. In a very contained space, the manufacturer has managed to house a pair of Dolby Atmos compatible stereo speakers. The sound produced is exceptional and allows you to watch movies or videos without having to use headphones or external speakers. We also appreciate the excellence of the fingerprint reader housed under the screen capable of unlocking the device in exactly 286 milliseconds (or 315 milliseconds if the screen is off), including in the presence of a screen protector. The designers of the OPPO Find X2 Pro have paid particular attention to haptic feedback by using a new motor producing precise and pleasant vibrations.
This uncompromising equipment is entirely at the service of ColorOS 7.1, new version of the operating system developed by OPPO. Based on Android 10, it keeps its simplicity and efficiency while offering relevant additional functions. We can cite for example an optimized game mode, the personalization of icons as well as the integration of a set of very intuitive control gestures. OPPO even had the good taste not to overload ColorOS 7.1. In addition to the standard applications and a few well-thought-out utilities, there is only the video editing software Soloop and OPPO Relax, intended for relaxation and meditation. Both are uninstallable. With ColorOS 7.1, your favorite applications have finally found the performance and simplicity of your dreams.
