Report: Roku wants to release its own TVs with Roku OS

According to Business Insider, Roku plans to release televisions under its own name that run the Roku OS system. The operating system is already licensed to TV manufacturers such as TCL, Philips, Hisense and Hitachi.

Roku is said to release models in different sizes and price ranges. The company, which is mainly known for media players, has reportedly had the ambition to enter the television market for over a year now. Although not mentioned, a third party may handle the manufacturing of the televisions which are then sold under the Roku brand.

Roku OS may be rare in Sweden but it was reportedly the largest smart TV operating system in the US in both 2020 and 2021, with 60.1 million US users at the end of last year.
