Some new Chromebooks will receive updates for eight years

Chromebooks receive system updates for a limited period. In practice, it is usually about five years after the store availability. At the end of last year, Google promised an extra year of updates for a variety of models.

Initially, the update period was only three years, so things have gone in the right direction. Now Google says on its product blog that several Chromebooks launched in 2020 will receive updates for eight years.

Google specifically mentions the date June 2028. However, this does not apply to all new Chromebooks going forward, as it is partly up to the manufacturer. The Lenovo 10e and Acer Chromebook 712 are two of the models that will be updated until 2028.

How long Chromebooks will be updated can be found on Google’s support page.
