Ubiquiti's Amplifi Teleport app lets you explore anywhere as if you were …

Even with HTTPS encryption, the use of public Wi-Fi is an act of faith. You don’t know of any malicious actors trying to access your data, and even if most of your connections are hidden, someone can understand the metadata you don’t want to share. To overcome this, you can configure your own VPN. There are plenty of options available, but if you’re looking for a smooth way to surf the web like you’re at home, Amplifi might be the way to do it. The company has just released a beta version of the Teleport app that allows you to remotely access your Amplify router at home, remaining anonymous on other networks.

Amplify’s portable Wi-Fi teleporter router offers the same basic functionality, which is forwarded to your home network on the go. The Teleport app goes further and creates a VPN directly on your device, allowing you to use it even when you are using a cellular connection.

To set up a network on your Android device, you need to create a code on your home router that works like a handshake and enter it the first time you launch the Teleport app. The interface you will receive later is quite simple. It shows your connectivity status, download and upload speeds, and allows you to enable or disable the VPN.

This app is still in development, so don’t expect the first image to work perfectly. If you have an Amplify router, you can download the app from the Play Store now. Although this is an early access, you do not need to register for the beta version.
