We are superior to all other network operators in Germany

O2 customers may see things differently, but the German head of Telefónica is sure. No other operator will do more for its own network, and O2 will be ahead of the others when it expands. There are still dead spots.

o2: 10,000 new LTE stations are planned

Markus Haas, head of Germany at Telefónica (o2), was confident in an interview with Tagesspiegel. According to him, O2 is a priority when LTE networks are expanded in Germany. Last year, it was said that 10,000 new LTE stations had been established. Another 10,000 new stations are planned for 2020. A new LTE transmitter for the o2 network will operate every hour.

When asked about the requirements of the Federal Network Board, Haas stated that he was “very confident” that he could meet this by the end of 2022 and the end of 2025. However, it was also clear that the provisions imposed by O2 in 2015 were not met, and the operator others also cannot apply the requirements of the Federal Network Agency. However, Telefónica is specifically criticized in this regard because the “white points” on the maps in the O2 network are the most extensive in comparison.

According to the Federal Network Agency, 98 percent of all households in Germany and 97 percent of households in each state must receive a minimum data rate of 50 megabits per second since the end of 2019. In addition, the main artery is closed. Because the objective was not achieved, the Federal Network Board could face a fine of up to 100,000 euros. Even individual frequencies can be extracted from the operators of Telefónica, Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone as a last resort.

The expansion of the LTE network is also important because the 3G network is slowly taking off. All the information can be found here on video:

o2: 5G “fact-free” discussion

When asked about possible health risks with the new 5G network, Haas was concerned. According to him, the discussion will only be “fact-free.” Some 4G and 5G frequencies have been used for television and radio for decades without complaint.

Excluding the Chinese manufacturer Huawei from expanding the 5G network in Germany is not a good idea. There must be certainty of planning as soon as possible so that the construction does not get stuck. Telefónica wants to start conversations with Huawei, as well as Nokia, Ericsson and other partners when it participates in a core network tender in 2020.

An investment of up to four billion euros in cellular communication will be made in Telefónica in the coming years. Odds must be “at least as high, if not higher” than the competition. To use the money effectively in expanding the network, a faster construction law will help. The goal is to set the radio masts up high without permission to make dead spots in the O2 network disappear.
